Plain answers.

About buying Kantrix, what it runs, leaving VMware, the two versions, and security. IT providers have their own questions page.

01

Buying Kantrix

Can I buy directly from Kantrix?

Paid plans are sold through partners, with one exception. Organizations in defense and intelligence, central federal government, energy and water, and telecommunications buy Kantrix Sovereign from us directly, unless their legal counsel approves working through a partner.

What does it cost?

Two nodes are free. Beyond that, your partner quotes you. The MSRP is $150 USD per node, per month, for the whole platform, on any hardware or in any cloud. See pricing.

What counts as a node?

Any server or cloud VM enrolled in Kantrix. VMs and containers running on a node don't count.

Is the free plan really free forever?

Yes. Two nodes, every feature, no card and no time limit.

What happens when I need a third node?

Find a partner. They move you to a paid plan, and your nodes and workloads stay as they are.

Why go through a partner?

A partner near you plans the move, installs Kantrix on hardware you choose, and looks after it. You get one contract and one invoice, and every partner is backed by our engineers.

02

The platform

What hardware do I need?

Any x86 server with wired Ethernet. Buy it from whoever you already buy from.

What can I run on it?

Windows and Linux virtual machines, apps from Hub and your own containers and apps, side by side on the same nodes, with two or three copies of storage across nodes in a cluster. See the platform.

Can I run Kubernetes workloads?

Kantrix runs containers on K3s, a lightweight Kubernetes.

Can a VM use a GPU?

Yes. Pass a node's GPU straight through to a VM for AI workloads. The server needs IOMMU turned on in its firmware.

Can I add cloud VMs as nodes?

Yes. Cloud VMs join as nodes beside your on-site servers, at the same price per node. You pay the cloud provider for the VM.

Can I keep my backup product?

Yes. Run the backup product you trust inside each VM. Your partner can set it up.

What does a node need from my network?

Wired Ethernet with DHCP and outbound internet access. Nothing inbound. .

03

Leaving VMware

Do I have to buy new servers?

Usually not. Kantrix runs on any x86 server, and your free exit assessment says which of yours can stay.

What does the move cost?

Kantrix Migrate is free. Your partner quotes the project and the monthly price per node.

What if something goes wrong?

The original VM stays switched off on VMware until you sign off. If the moved VM isn't right, the original is switched back on.

Can I move some VMs now and the rest later?

Yes. VMware and Kantrix run side by side while you move, one VM at a time. How a move works.

04

Versions

What's the difference between Kantrix Cloud and Kantrix Sovereign?

Kantrix Cloud's control plane is run by us, and you manage every site from anywhere. Kantrix Sovereign runs the control plane on your own hardware, with no outbound connection. Compare the versions.

Who can buy Kantrix Sovereign?

Organizations in defense and intelligence, central federal government, energy and water, and telecommunications. We deliver it ourselves, and scope each deployment with you.

Can a partner sell Kantrix Sovereign?

No. A partner can serve an organization in those sectors only with written permission from that organization's legal counsel.

05

Security and data

Where is my data?

Your workloads and their data stay on your nodes. The portal, its database and sign-in run on Amazon Web Services. Every location, named.

Can Kantrix staff see my data?

Our platform staff can see your inventory in the portal: sites, nodes and workloads. They can't see inside your VM disks, and they can't open a console or shell on your devices.

How do I report a vulnerability?

Email security@kantrix.io with what you found and how to reproduce it.

06

Your IT provider

My IT provider hasn't heard of Kantrix.

Tell us who they are. We'll invite them to partner with us and help them get started, so you don't have to change providers.

What if my provider doesn't want to take part?

We'll introduce you to the highest-tier partner in your region, but only if you agree.

Who sees my details when I ask for a partner?

Kantrix, and the one partner we introduce, because you said yes on the form. Nobody else.

I'm an IT provider. Where are my questions?

On the partner questions page: how we protect your customers, partner pricing, tiers and support. Partner questions.

Still have a question?

A partner near you can answer it, and show you Kantrix on your own hardware.
